Magic to Cameroon 2024 – SWO training program

We are delighted that in 2024 we will be financially supporting the Sustainable Women Organization (SWO) and Tebi Honourine in Bamenda, Cameroon for the third time.
In 2019, MttW members were there themselves and MttW provided financial support for the implementation of workshops and training opportunities for women and children in the conflict-ridden region. Since 2020, MttW has been financing a three-year training program for 13 young women on their way to self-employment. Now MttW will be financially supporting the six-month project “BRAVE GIRLS: “Bringing Real Awareness to victims Everywhere” with 1.500 €.

Participants of a SWO workshop funded by MttW in 2023

With BRAVE GIRLS, SWO aims to empower 15 marginalized girls and women aged 15 to 29 from the northwest of Cameroon by teaching them leadership skills, digital literacy and economic empowerment through various educational formats. In the northwest region of Cameroon, particularly in Mezam, many girls from disadvantaged backgrounds face a dual challenge: limited access to digital technology and a lack of awareness and skills to advocate for their rights. Only 27% of girls aged 15-19 have access to the internet, compared to 39% of boys (UNICEF, 2020). This digital divide excludes them from educational resources, economic opportunities and the ability to connect with support networks.

Participants will attend leadership workshops that focus on communication, confidence, and decision-making . This will prepare them to take on leadership roles in their community and act as advocates against gender-based violence. After laying the foundations in leadership, the project moves to training in digital literacy . Participants will be trained in social media management, content creation, and online safety. The goal is for the BRAVE GIRLS to become advocacy agents in both physical and digital spaces and to assume their role as agents of change. The third component of the project is entrepreneurship and digital portfolio development . Participants will learn how to use digital tools for income generation and economic empowerment to break the cycle of poverty and marginalization.

In the long term, the BRAVE GIRLS will become active leaders, which will strengthen their ability to participate in decision-making processes and peace-building measures. The girls and women can be role models so that even more girls can be reached and learn from them. In her project proposal, Tebi shows how she wants to measure and further develop the project’s progress using evaluation tools. SWO and MttW are convinced that this project represents an innovative, holistic approach to empowering marginalized girls. This project contributes directly to the National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Cameroon and ensures that girls from disadvantaged backgrounds are able to stand up for their rights and engage meaningfully in their communities. To ensure the long-term sustainability of the BRAVE GIRLS project and maximize its impact beyond the initial six months, the Sustainable Women Organization (SWO) has developed a sustainability plan that focuses on building capacity within the group, creating networks for ongoing support, and exploring potential funding sources and partnerships for scaling. Please help keep this project going beyond 6 months and donate to our cooperation with SWO!

The 2024 project costs of 1.500 are divided into:

  • Leadership and workshops on gender-based violence, 366,000 XAF (approx. 560€), including costs for: room rental, fees for experts, transport costs for participants, food for participants, writing materials, T-shirts
