Hello family member, friend, colleague or complete stranger – however you’re enjoying this article: I’m glad you’re here!
Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t like to beat about the bush, so let’s get straight to the point:
Why? When I first came across this topic, I thought to myself: Wait, we’re living in 2024, surely this can’t be an existing problem? Unfortunately it is, so here are the facts: Globally, 2.2 billion people have no access to drinking water (source: DW) – still unimaginable to me. Around 10 million of them live in the Philippines (source: WHO). And others can explain better than me why children of all people are worst affected by the consequences: UNICEF.
How? I started looking for a suitable partner NGO (non-governmental organization) and after some research I came across Waves for Water (WFW): A medium-sized NGO that is active in 48 countries worldwide and has been able to support over 2 million people in the Philippines alone with their simple bucket/filter combination. The ingenious thing: easy handling, simple distribution and a single filter is shared by around 5 households or 25 people. On behalf of our association, I have set myself the goal of giving 1,000 people access to drinking water for the first project – according to Adam Ries, we need 40 of these filters for this. WFW will act as an intermediary on site and will support us primarily in terms of establishing contact with the region to be supported and the follow-up, including monitoring the use of the distributed utensils. To give you an idea of the product, I had something sent to me:
Who? I will fly to the region myself and carry out the project. I am already in contact with WFW about possible local cooperation partners. As of today, Kevin will be accompanying me, whoop whoop! Other members and non-members are very welcome – just get in touch! 🙂
Where? Barangay San Lorenzo, Nozagaray, Bulacan Community – Site Inuman & Babuyan
When? The project will take place within the third week of January in 2025, i.e. from January 13 to 17! 🙂
What do you need from me? I need your vote first and don’t worry – this is not an election. If you’ve read this far – spread the word – feel free to share the post, tell your friends, family and colleagues or complete strangers about it! And of course we absolutely need donations so that we can achieve our ambitious goal! But to make sure you know what it’s for, here’s the project calculation for transparency.
How much does the project cost?
Content | Total Price EUR | Total Price PHP |
40x Filter- / bucket combination | 2.000 | 120.000 |
Transportation | 300 | 18.000 |
Project support, follow-up and control of the distributed resources in the following years by WFW | 700 | 42.000 |
Gesamt | 3.000 | 180.000 |
We are eager to continue our projects with our established partners in Uganda and Cameroon and to set new accents there again in 2025. There will soon be more news about the activities we are planning for next year – stay tuned! This project comes on top and means an additional burden on the association’s finances, which unfortunately we cannot finance from scratch. We are therefore dependent on your support and donations so that we can achieve our ambitious goal of providing 1,000 people with access to drinking water!
